MELBOURNE BRIDAL SESSION

As we walked around the city, Christie and Tom looking like any other bissfully happy newly married couple, every other person stopped to congratulate them.  Christie took it all in stride and thanked them for their well wishes, clearly enjoying herself.  Which is just as well because it would have been too much work explaining to each of them that, despite appearances, they weren’t actually married.

Christie and Tom had graciously agreed to play dress-ups for us, in perhaps the most extreme sense of the word.  In return for a copy of the images, and for the sheer fun of it (for Christie more so than Tom) they had agreed to be models for a Bridal Session that good friend, and fellow photographer, Amy and I had planned.  The initial idea of the shoot was to capture some images in situations that brides wouldn’t normally put themselves on their wedding day, mostly for fear of getting their dress dirty, or possibly torn (though not likely).  Unfortunately we had to let go of our original idea due to lack of light and the freezing Melbourne weather, but we do hope to have another go at it once the bitey cold winter has passed.  So we bravely wandered the streets of Melbourne instead, going where inspiration took us, and nearly getting arrested for jaywalking in the process.  Thank goodness for police that don’t have the heart to chase a bride on her wedding day.  :)

I was really, really happy with the results, largely due to the effort of the wonderful people that teamed up with Amy and I.  The make-up artist, hairdresser and florist all donated their time and talents, and there was certainly a lot of talent involved.  I am so grateful to have had the chance to work with such wonderful people, who I can confidently recommend to future brides.
I can’t wait for the next Bridal Session now!

And I have to say, publicly, just how fabulous Tom and Christie looked – they didn’t scrub up too bad at all!  Actually, Tom is very aptly named as there were several occasions throughout the shoot that I was struck by his resemblance to a young Tom Cruise.  Can’t complain about that now, can I.  And I think Tom deserves a heap of kudos for actually being brave enough to do the whole dress up and pretend he was married thing.  How many guys wouldn’t be totally freaked out if their girlfriends asked for that kind of favour.  My dear husband certainly had a lot of respect for him.

Enough from me.  Here is the evidence of a great afternoon, shared with beautiful, talented, fabulous and generous people, whom I hope to cross paths with again one day soon.

In case you’re curious:
The flowers were provided by Flowergirls, in Balwyn.

Baby Jacob: Slideshow

A few posts back I shared some photographs from Jacob’s christening.  The final gallery of images I sent through to mum and dad was HUGE – in fact they’re probably still sitting there going through them as I type.  And I hope they’re smiling, just as I do each time I look through them.  It was such a great day, full of love and festivities.

The’ve no doubt got a lot of friends and families that would like to view the images also, but wouldn’t necessarily want to go through each and every one of them, so I’ve put together an abridged version for them, and for anyone else that may like to watch the slideshow and take part themselves in the joy.  I’m posting the slideshow below. Simply click play and wait for it to load. Then enjoy.

Thanks again, Snez and Tony. It really was a wonderful day, and a memorable experience.

On with the slideshows.

A few weeks ago I shared a peek from Melina and Andrew’s session. I totally enjoyed wandering around Southbank that morning, chatting as we went and stopping for a photograph or two as we felt inspired.  They were such great fun.  I have the best job in the world, I swear!
I was watching each image pop up in my viewfinder as I took it, and could hardly wait to get home and see them on the ‘big screen’. I knew I was going to love looking through this session, and I was right.  I still enjoy looking through their photographs – they’re such a fun, happy couple.  And I hear Melina’s contagious laugh every time I look at them.  :)

I was hopeful that Andrew and Melina would let me share their time in front of my camera, and they didn’t let me down (thank you so much guys!!), so I’ve put another slideshow together (I am seriously loving these things…I’m addicted…somebody help me…) and, again, all you have to do is press play, a perhaps wait a minute or two for it to load, and you can see what a gorgeous, fun loving, up for anything couple these two are.  Who knows, maybe I’ll get to shoot their wedding somewhere down the track.  Oh, that would be a blast.

Never wOrk with children Or animals…

…well, that’s what they say.  But I have to disagree.
Obviously I work with children a lot, and occasionally animals get thrown into the mix as well. And I enjoy every minute of it.  I think it’s great when pets are incorporated into a session.  Often cats and, more commonly, dogs are the first ‘child’ in a family.  It’s nature’s way of preparing us for something that, let’s face it, we can never actually be prepared for. So they’re often an integral part of the family and, rightfully so, deserve their place on the wall alongside their Mum and Dad, and their brothers and sisters.
I recently did a session where their two dogs were as much a part of it as the rest of the family.  The great thing about dogs is they can’t say ‘cheese’.  Only thing is they won’t do much else on command either.  But these two were perfectly well behaved.  Though I’m not sure they’d say I was their favourite photographer if you pressed them.  I did get a growl or two.  But I think there may have been some smiles in there somewhere as well.
And this session has actually turned out to be one of my favourites.  There are lots of little ‘moments’ in there that I absolutely adore. And I believe this is what my style is all about.  For me it’s all about capturing those points in time that will matter 10, 20, 30 years down the track.
So I begged mum and dad for permission to share their gallery on here (actually, I just had to ask nicely – they were very happy to share), and I’ve compiled it into a little slideshow for you all.  If you have a few spare minutes to watch, simply press the play button below.

I really enjoyed putting this together.  And I’ve sat and watched it over and over.  In fact, I love them so much I’m thinking of putting one together for each of my clients from now on so they can send the link to all their friends and family, or embed it on facebook if that’s their fancy.  What a great way to share the love.
