ALEX + ELISE + HEIDE

Alex and Elise were married back in March, my first wedding after coming back from our US holiday.  I’d spent several weeks photographing glorious coastlines, snow covered mountains, grand canyons, deserts and valleys, and was looking forward to working with people again.  People who’d travelled the world to find one another, fall in love, and travel back again to declare that love in front of their friends and families.  And it felt good to bear witness to the joy, the nerves, the excitement, the calm, the relief, and all the other wonderful mixture of emotions that wound their way through the day that was so real and so completely and utterly them.

I’ve been very blessed, and delighted, to work with such beautiful couples as Alex and Elise, who welcome me into one of the most incredible days of their lives and allow me to feel, in some way, a part of it, as opposed to just being there to perform a job.  Who allow me to see them at what is often their most vulnerable, honest state, and to trust me to capture that.  It really was a joy to spend the day at Heide with these two, to watch as they committed their lives and their hearts to one another, surrounded by the people they hold dear.  And I must confess to feeling both a little ‘homesick’, and ‘at home’ at the sound of so many English accents.  And it said a lot to me that so many people had travelled so far to be a part of this day also.

I wish wonderful things for you both, Elise and Alex, as you travel this unpredictable, ever-suprising, but amazing and always wondrous journey together.  I’m excited for what it will bring your way.
