Getting back into it.

It’s been a bit quiet here lately, hey. Especially after the last month’s marathon of posting.
Truthfully, I’ve been enjoying the break, but also a bit sad about having to work at picking my camera up. I’ve been enjoying the break just a bit too much.
I am getting my phojo back again though, especially when I have a gorgeous little girl to play model for me.

This is mostly how I’ve been ‘refreshing’ myself creatively – by sewing.  I’ve really been enjoying it, and it’s such a pleasure to watch Alicia-Rae run about in something I put together with my own hands. Well, my hands and a sewing machine.  I came across a really funky pattern online, which I’m waiting to arrive from the states, and I’m so looking forward to it arriving sometime soon. So keep an eye out for the next addition to AR’s modelling portfolio.  :)

It’s been beautiful weather here in Melbourne this week, which has also helped to get me back into the mood.  We met up with the cousins yesterday and all headed down to the beach for a bit.  I do love summer in Melbourne, and being on the beach in the height of it. It’s normally quite windy in the bay so it does a great job of blowing the cobwebs away.  :)
Anywho – here’s just a few snaps from our little adventure yesterday which makes me feel all summery again looking at them, despite the fact that in true Melbourne style the weather has dropped back down to 20 degrees or so, and it’s overcast and windy….

Having fun with his aunty, sending their dog Mocha into the surf after a ball.  Jaedon’s like his mama and likes to take his time getting wet, so any distraction will do.  ;-)

Getting closer

Going for it

Drying off and waiting for the cousins to either tire or freeze

All dried off and warm again, playing with his cousin Tilly.  She’s only 18 months older than Jaedon, but there’s a considerable size difference between the two. I think our boy’s got a bit of growing to do.

There. That feels better.  I’ve missed being here. It’s good to feel the urge again.  :)

366 pieces of life | Day 365 (1 day to go…)

Gosh – only 1 day left. It feels unreal – in all senses of the word.  And I just realised that had it been a normal, or regular, year this year we’d be done by now. I almost feel sad. Almost.

We were going to go visit my brother and his family this afternoon but I decided at the last moment to head down to Brighton instead. Can you believe I have been in Melbourne for however many years now (granted, 6 of the in between ones were spent in England) and have not, as far as I can remember, ever been down to the bathing boxes there.  I figured today was as good a time as any, and should hopefully get me some good shots for our second last day. Plus it’s an extra half hour on the train from where we normally get off, so that had to make the kids happy at least.
When I eventually maneuvered the pram onto the beach (don’t ask me how many times I got the thing bogged in the sand…) Jaedon’s face lit up as he yelled ‘Beach!” – though it sounded slightly like another word which I won’t meantion here.  ;-)    He promptly jumped from the pram and ran after a bird into the surf, where he slipped and fell on his backside into the water. Not good. If I’d thought to bring his swimmers the world would have gone on as it was, but no. Jaedon was devestated. The world had actually come to an end. Luckily I did have the sense to pack a spare pair of pants for him, so a quick change and a 10 minute spell (read wind-down) in the pram made it right again. Watching Alicia-Rae running around having fun without him certainly did wonders in helping him get over it.
So, now that that novel of an explanation is done, I couldn’t not post the photograph of him in the throes of his distress, proving once again where my priorities lay… ;-)    (Don’t worry – he did get LOTS of love and consolitory cuddles when I was done snapping).

Alicia-Rae in the meantime was having a ball. Chasing the birds. Throwing sand as far and high as she could (I made sure to stay well out of her way) and eating shells. I was really kicking myself at this stage that I didn’t bring their swimmers. Though it was probably just as well as I can’t imagine having to keep an eye on two toddlers at the mercy of the waves, as well as my beloved camera, and then tackle them both to get them changed at the end.  Sounds like a job that also needs daddy involved to me.
So here’s our little darling with the bathing boxes in the background.  The whole point of going to Brighton was to see the boxes so I figure I had to use at least one shot of them.  :)

And here’s a couple more of Jaedon that I really liked but they didn’t have as good a story behind them to use for the 366…

This time tomorrow it will all be over. Wow. Crazy. Phew.  :)

366 pieces of life | Day 358 (8 days to go…)

We had a power outage in our suburb this morning – coincidentally at exactly the same point in time as Matt was trying to re-jig the wiring on our christmas lights.  It was out for 5 hours! 5 long hours.  But we had fun – having to make our own up and not rely on anything aided by electricity.  It was also a bit of a challenge in that all our window shutters (electric of course) were still down as we’d only just gotten up when the power went out, so it was pretty dark inside. The only light we had was coming from one window in the lounge-room which happened to be open still. So we sat huddled by that all morning.
Jaedon got his beloved Thomas collection out and we had a read-a-thon, and it was a moment I couldn’t let slip by. He looked so sweet and gentle, and was totally enjoying himself. And so was I. I’ve actually been thinking it should be mandatory to have power outages on a regular basis.  :)

We also have Uncle Adrian staying with us until Christmas.  Mostly he’s been spending his days teaching Jaedon to play the gamecube. :)   Alicia-Rae has been quite amused (or is that bemused) by it all, and I found her this afternoon with one of the game covers in hand, studying it quite intently. Trying to figure out what the fuss is all about, no doubt.

366 pieces of life | Day 352

Somebody was a tired little boy today.
We went for a walk up to the shops and within the last 3-4 mintues of getting home Jaedon fell asleep in the pram.  I didn’t want to wake him as he’d been ‘indicating’ all day that he was rather tired ;-) so I decided to leave him be. Normally the pram is stored in our garage downstairs as there are too many steps to carry it up inside, but I didn’t want to leave him down there so I wheeled him round the side of the house and left him at the bottom of the back stairs where I could hear him when he woke.  Not that I was away from him that long anyway as I was, as usual, making the most of the opportunity to get some photographs of him.  And I always enjoy just looking at him while he’s asleep – taking in his sweet little face and peaceful features.  He gets stroppy if I stare at him while he’s awake – which makes his features anything but peaceful.  :)

On the other hand, Alicia-Rae is go-go-go. Even if she misses out on her midday nap for some reason you’d never know. She’d have to be the easiest child to manage. For the time being anyway.
Here she is rolling around at my feet, just before dinner. You’d swear she thinks she’s a cat sometimes -as if ‘purring’ and getting in the way is going to make us feed her more quickly. Especially if she puts on her charming, adorable face. Admittedly it usually works, but that’s not the point…  :)

Only two weeks to go!
At some point very soon after our 366 project is up I have something special to announce. Make sure to keep an eye out.
No hints either. You’ll just have to wait and see.

366 pieces of life | Day 349

As I’ve previously mentioned I’m sure our children’s genes got mixed up somewhere along the way.  Alicia-Rae loves to play in and eat dirt. The messier she can get the better (as far as she’s concerned anyway). However Jaedon is a neat freak.  He hates dirt, or getting messy.  And can’t stand it when he spills something on himself. He’s always been like that.
We were playing out in the yard this afternoon and, because it’s been raining for the last couple of days, everything was wet, or at least damp. Horror of horrors - he managed to get some water on his top and totally freaked out.  Making the most of the opportunity I had to take some photos before I helped him take his jumper off.  Somewhere along the line we’re hoping he learns to love dirt and germs like most boys his age.  :)

You wouldn’t believe our little girl loves to get messy by looking at this photograph. Could you get any sweeter or more angelic.
Perhaps I’m biased but she just takes my breath away sometimes. She’s so beautiful.
Every photographer/mother’s dream.  :)
