Go on, grab a latte.

One of the apsects of digital photography, and photoshop, that I just love is the unlimited capacity for creative output. There is SO much we can do these days, we are pretty much only limited by our imaginations.  And anyone who knows me well will tell you what a wild imagination I have.
I love being able to use my photography skills and creative drive, along with my knowledge of photoshop, to create new tools and products for clients and photographers alike.
On one side of the fence I get great delight and satisfaction in being able to create something specific and personal for my clients; albums, canvas artworks, greeting cards, brag books – the list goes on, as far as they want it to. And on the other side, I also appreciate the time and the effort that goes into these products and how the use of ready-made templates can help make the process just that little bit easier for us all.  If it helps us free up some time it’s got to be good, right.
So with all that in mind I am currently in the process of designing and creating a collection of templates, with an exciting twist.  They’ll not only make my job easier, and that of fellow photographers (even scrapbookers), but will also eventually aide in lifting the burden from yet more lives.  That is my goal, anyway.  But I’d like to share more about that at a later date.  Curious?  Good.  :)

Just to be a tease, and give you a taste of things to come, here is a peek at what I’m working on this moment.

Latte

It is from a collection of album page layouts, which I’ve entitled Latte.  Can you guess what inspired me?  :)
I particularly love this one because I think it would go great as an album cover.  But you could do anything with it really – it would also look great cropped with some text added for a birth announcement.
And because this is just a teaser I’m going to offer it right here as a download.  That’s right just click right here and it’s yours to have a play with. You might want to go grab a quick coffee, preferably a latte, while it’s loading though.  :)

And, please, keep an eye out.  I’ll be posting the full set right here on my blog shortly, and you can find out how you can help make someone else’s life easier along with your own.

Happy Monday all.

Nine

Children's Photography MelbourneHe makes my heart sing for many reasons. And he fills me with pride for as many more.
I look at each of the above images and think (other than how desperately he needs a hair cut) of the many ways he makes me feel awesomely glad to be his mum.

1. He trusts me. Implicitly.
2. His cheeky grin makes him look just like his daddy. Adorable.
3. He doesn’t just look, he sees. Right inside of me. He is incredibly perceptive.
4. He is faithful. Just like a puppy.
5. He is confident and independent.
6. He is goofy. And ever so loveable.
7. He is sincere. And open.
8. Innocent and pure.
9. Crazy. Happy. Joyful. Playful. Just plain fun to be around.

But mostly he just is. He is everything I would want in a child. In a son. Well, almost. If he ate his vegetables then he’d be perfect.

All I need is a Moment : Wednesday 3:41pm

Melbourne Photographer NJOY THE MOMENT

I just love this time of the year, when the wattle is blooming. It is Australia in all her essence.

* I will be attempting to keep my words to a minimum with my weekly Moment shots.  A challenge, I know. Especially for me.  But I’d love for the photographs to speak for themselves.

Happy Wednesday all.

Werribee Open Range Zoo

Between client sessions and new house-y stuff it’s been quite busy around here the last few weeks (read months).  And it seems the weatherman has had forewarning of what moments of quiet and nothingness we have had, sending the wind and the rain along just long enough to thwart any ideas of outdoor adventures.  Well – Ha!, Mr Weatherman – we beat you this time!

It was glorious out today, albeit a little cold (so, we didn’t quite win), and we had plans. Just a little time out together as a family. To laugh and run and explore and play.
Almost 12 months ago we signed up for our very own FOTZ pass, which stands for Friends Of The Zoo.  The small, business-card sized piece of paper meant we had unlimited entry, for 12 months, to Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary, and Werribee Open Range Zoo.  We’ve managed to make it several times each to the first two, but not Werribee.  To be honest we weren’t even sure the kids would get anything out of Werribee as they were mostly interested in the on-ground play equipment at Melbourne and Healesville.  The animals were merely a distraction after they bored of the swings and slides.  And there weren’t any playgrounds at Werribee. Just animals, strangely enough.  But we figured as we were running dangerously close to the last few days of our subscription that we may as well make the most of it, and the beautiful weather, and the time off, and the great moods. It had all come together for good.

True, there were no playgrounds. But there were buses. Great big tour buses. And each of the 45 minutes we had to wait once we got there until the next one was due to depart was punctuated with ‘Daddy, we’re going on the bus’ – sung, rather than merely spoken. ‘Yes, Jaedon. We are going on the bus.’   Did he even realise he was surrounded by lions, and giraffes, zebras and hippos. I think not. Buses are right up there with trams, falling only slightly behind trains, and to our three and a half year old boy are a whole lot more exciting than the wilds of Africa.  And Alicia-Rae was more interested in the rocks, as she generally is.  She’s very passionate about her rocks, and would make our resident Geologist, Uncle Lorne, very proud. But they came around in the end, both of them, and soon had their heads thrust through the window like exuberant puppies on the car-ride of their lives.  The only thing missing was the drool.

I’m not sure about the rest of my family, but I had a wonderful time.  Mostly because I’m actually pretty sure they had a great time too.  Having cleverly forgotten to pack the pram (it was all part of the plan, honest) the kids had no choice but to walk and run (and jump) everywhere.  Nothing spells out freedom quite like two young children let loose amongst wild animals. I almost couldn’t tell which was which. The innocence in the fun, and the simplicity of their joy reminded me again of what life is all about.

Our Fotz membership runs out next weekend, so I guess we’ll have to search further afield for some wild fun and grand adventures.  I’m sure it won’t be too hard though – every day is an adventure to the young, and those that choose to live like the young.  I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

All I need is a moment.

Can you spare me a moment?  That’s all I need to tell you about the wonderful project I’ve signed up for, called (ironically) All I need is a moment.
Moments are just small measures of time, but they’re pretty big things for me.  They’re what my passion, my photography, is based on. Moments.
No two of them are ever the same. Just like you and me. But we’ll be around for a good 90 years or so. Moments won’t. That’s why I put so much effort into capturing them – if I’m going to be travelling this earth for another 60 years or so I wanna take them with me.

Anyways… this wonderful project that this post is actually supposed to be about, was originally just between two friends, but they are embracing anyone who wants to join in with them and pause for one moment out of their week.  I’ll quote directely from their blog, as they probably do a better job of explaining it than I would.

“The method to our photographic madness is to randomly select  a day and time each week when all of us will stop what we are doing and take a photo. This project centers around “a moment” because we all believe that the moment, any moment, this moment right now, is the most important thing there is. Catching ourselves, even if we have to arrange it, in a moment in time, in our busy lives, in places so many miles from others whom we love, is like catching a bit of rest, a bit of slow down, a bit of noticing, reflecting, being. And when our photos of that being, that noticing of where, who, when, and even why we are combine, we feel connected to each other and maybe to the greater world, because we know that in that one moment, that one week, we were making the same choice to be awake and alive, together, and on our own.”

I think it’s such a wonderful idea. Not that I need any more excuses to get my camera out, but I love the idea of connecting with people from all over the world, and sharing a very small piece of our lives together.  And it’s an important reminder that we are not alone in what we do – whatever that is.
I’ve made a mental vow to myself to try (very hard) not to take photographs of my children every week – but it will be hard. They’re such a big part of my life, and a big part of each day.  It will take a conscious effort on my part to concentrate on, and delight in, something else. But I need that.  All us mums do.  We need to take a bit of time out every now and then just for us.
In saying that, I didn’t do so well this week.  Today was the chosen day, 11:17am the time.  I found myself by the back window, laughing with Jaedon.  Just having a bit of silly fun.  The moment snuck up on me so I simply recorded it as it was.  Funnily enough, Jaedon wasn’t as keen on the idea as I was. When I asked him to look at me so I could see his beautiful blue eyes he did his best to squeeze them shut as tight as he could, going as far as jamming his fingers into his sockets so they didn’t accidentally open by themselves. :)

So not quite the moment I intended to capture, but one I know I’ll look back on and laugh at. And it will remind me of everything my little boy is about.
