AMANDA AND SIMON | A SNEAKY PEEK

What a crazy week, weather-wise, here in Melbourne.  I can’t remember it ever being so cold and so wet and so windy, all in one week.  And of course it had to be the week leading up to Amanda and Simon’s wedding.
If I’m honest, the weather report for the day scared me. Scattered showers. Winds. 12 degrees.  I’ve never had to shoot  a wedding in the rain before. Or a wedding in the rain on a cold and windy day.  But I needn’t have worried so much. Despite the fact that when I left the wedding venue (having had a pre-ceremony peep) it was still raining, by the time I’d arrived at Amanda’s house to photograph the preparations the sun was out, and was content to shine on the happy couple for the rest of the day.
But in saying all that, it would have been a beautiful day regardless.  And it was a beautiful day, the sun only serving to illuminate the love and laughter that filled the spaces around them.

Hopefully they’re enjoying some more of that wonderful sunshine on their honeymoon, along with lots of love and laughter.

I can’t wait to share more of this beautiful day soon.

ROBYN AND ALEX | TOGETHER

Next time I blog about this couple it will be subtitled FOREVER.  Having corresponded for a couple of months, I finally got to meet them last week, and am now excitedly looking forward to photographing their wedding in just over 8 weeks time.  8 weeks.  I bet it will be here before they know it.

It was absolutely wonderful to catch up with Robyn and Alex. There are any number of gorgeous words I could use to describe them – though none of them would do them justice. But they are the sort of couple that you wished lived next door, or that make you feel as though you’ve known them forever. And they are so completely and obviously meant to be together.  The kind of couple that make me coo (I wish I could say discreetly) as I shoot away.  I can’t wait to see how beautiful and totally them their wedding day is going to be.

They have chosen the most gorgeous location to pledge themselves to one another, and I’m grateful that we got to have a little mini session when we met up recently to check the place out.  Their I Do’s are going to be magical in all senses of the word.  Did I mention I’m really looking forward to it.

Here’s just a little sneakity peek.

I hope the next few weeks go smoothly for you guys, and I’ll keep my fingers, and toes, crossed for the most divine weather outer Melbourne has to offer.  :)

IT’S ARRIVED!

You should know that I’m very excited.  Late last week the FedEx guy arrived at my doorstep with a parcel for me.  I would have hugged him, had I not been sprung in my beautiful winter pj’s and Ugg boots, and was therefore hiding behind the screen door as much as possible.  He rather kindly kept his gaze at eye level, then left me with a nice big box which, when opened, filled my nostrils with the oh so delicious smell of leather.  You know, the same exciting smell you get when you open the box to a brand new pair of brown leather boots, with heels that are just a bit too high, but they look so good and that’s all that matters right.  That kind of smell.
Mmmmmmm.

The reason for my excitement was not, this time, a pair of boots however.  It was my long -awaited, full of gorgeousness, sample wedding album.  Something beautiful to show off to my future brides, or anyone that just wants a sticky-beak really.  I’m happy to show it off – just ask.  :)
Andrew and Melina were happy for me to use images from their recent wedding (blogged here), and while the album is so completely lovely in it’s own right I think these guys would look have made a brown paper covered scrapbook look incredible.

If you’re meeting up with me to discuss your wedding photography in the near future, make sure to ask to see it (and feel it – and smell it.  mmmmmm) – though no doubt I’ll show it to you anyway.  I’ll probably even bring it along to my newborn, couples and engagement photography sessions as well, as there’s no reason why the album couldn’t be designed to suit these sessions also.  I can feel a few more album samples coming up now.

My photos nowhere near do it justice, but here is just a quick glimpse at it for now, along with a few of my favourite pages.

Happy Wednesday!

MELBOURNE BRIDAL SESSION

As we walked around the city, Christie and Tom looking like any other bissfully happy newly married couple, every other person stopped to congratulate them.  Christie took it all in stride and thanked them for their well wishes, clearly enjoying herself.  Which is just as well because it would have been too much work explaining to each of them that, despite appearances, they weren’t actually married.

Christie and Tom had graciously agreed to play dress-ups for us, in perhaps the most extreme sense of the word.  In return for a copy of the images, and for the sheer fun of it (for Christie more so than Tom) they had agreed to be models for a Bridal Session that good friend, and fellow photographer, Amy and I had planned.  The initial idea of the shoot was to capture some images in situations that brides wouldn’t normally put themselves on their wedding day, mostly for fear of getting their dress dirty, or possibly torn (though not likely).  Unfortunately we had to let go of our original idea due to lack of light and the freezing Melbourne weather, but we do hope to have another go at it once the bitey cold winter has passed.  So we bravely wandered the streets of Melbourne instead, going where inspiration took us, and nearly getting arrested for jaywalking in the process.  Thank goodness for police that don’t have the heart to chase a bride on her wedding day.  :)

I was really, really happy with the results, largely due to the effort of the wonderful people that teamed up with Amy and I.  The make-up artist, hairdresser and florist all donated their time and talents, and there was certainly a lot of talent involved.  I am so grateful to have had the chance to work with such wonderful people, who I can confidently recommend to future brides.
I can’t wait for the next Bridal Session now!

And I have to say, publicly, just how fabulous Tom and Christie looked – they didn’t scrub up too bad at all!  Actually, Tom is very aptly named as there were several occasions throughout the shoot that I was struck by his resemblance to a young Tom Cruise.  Can’t complain about that now, can I.  And I think Tom deserves a heap of kudos for actually being brave enough to do the whole dress up and pretend he was married thing.  How many guys wouldn’t be totally freaked out if their girlfriends asked for that kind of favour.  My dear husband certainly had a lot of respect for him.

Enough from me.  Here is the evidence of a great afternoon, shared with beautiful, talented, fabulous and generous people, whom I hope to cross paths with again one day soon.

In case you’re curious:
The flowers were provided by Flowergirls, in Balwyn.
The  make-up was done by Quincy Dee Creative Make Up Design.
Hair styling was done by Leah Stevens.
Thank you sooo much to all of you – you each did a fabulous job in your own right.
(Please contact me if you would like the details for Leah or Quincy Dee)

Melbourne, and wedding photography – I adore them both.  So when I get to combine the two, walking the streets of this amazing city with a totally gorgeous couple, I get more than excited.

Over the next day or two I’ll be sharing more – a whole lot more – of this recent bridal session.  Can’t wait.
